Photo to Drawing
The prints begin as drawings, then are developed into designs.
This whole process is described in more detail on my art studio diary.

Carving Lino
These designs are transferred in reverse onto a special piece of linoleum designed to be carved with lino-cutting tools. The 'white' sections of the designs are cut away with a variety of effects being achieved using different tools and techniques.

Printing Linoblock
These lino blocks are then evenly inked using a roller with an oil based printing ink. A piece of paper is then carefully placed on the inked lino block. The print is made by the transferance of the ink to the paper using techniques such as rubbing the back of the paper with a spoon or the use of a special press.

Paint Print
After the ink dries, each print is individually hand coloured using artists watercolours.

EDITIONS AND EDITIONING ORIGINAL PRINTS
Lynette Weir's linoprints/linocuts are produced as a limited edition. This means there are only a limited number of prints produced of any particular design.
Below the image a number exists eg. 2/25. The top number indicates the edition number print this particular image is, and the lower number indicating the total number of prints that have been produced within that 'edition'.
A small number (2-5) are produced outside of the edition total as artist's proofs - A/P, these are prints the artist choses as being of high quality.
After all prints in an edition are completed the linoblock from which the prints are made is 'cancelled' by damaging the surface of the lino so that the image may no longer be printed.
Lynette's original linocut editions of each design are generally limited to between 10 and 50. Although multiples of each image are produced, each is individually handmade, numbered and signed as of a limited edition. Each print is an original artwork with small individual differences as each is individually made.

PAPERS
Papers used are often handmade rice papers, acidfree and rag papers which are chosen to compliment the images which are to be printed on them.

"WHAT IS A PRINT"
A website that explains "What is a Print" and outlines methods of printmaking including woodcuts can be found at The Museum of Modern Art - New York.
Linocuts use the same methodology with the difference in that instead of wood an artist uses lino with special tools for carving lino rather than wood.
